BRS Fire Sale Continues

If you are in close knit Reefing Circles like the Reefkeeping Intelligence Agency, you are well aware of Bulk Reef Supply’s (Owned by Aperture) cash flow issues. From MAP violations that caused CoralVue to pull their partnership from them, to layoffs happening at the Company. Aperture is likely setting up to sell to another company to off load their portfolio.

This means there are some crazy firesales on BRS’s website that you can take advantage of. Get them while they are hot. It’s really unfortunate to see as I was a huge fan of Marine Depot back in the day and to see them get acquired by BRS and watching the mismanagement happen from all their acquisitions afterwards as ruined the saltwater retail side of the hobby for me.

Luckily we still have SaltwaterAquarium.com around.

Summary Of Animal Committee of CITES

The Animals Committee of CITE was held in Geneva in July 2024. Below are some quick takeaways from the meeting

  • They highlighted concerns over the impracticality of microchipping pet fish and the complexities of proving the legal acquisition of captive-bred species. They also called for clearer definitions and reporting terms for stony corals to facilitate trade and enforcement.

  • Efforts were made to establish a scientific assessment process for marine fish species before imposing management measures, with mixed results, but further research was agreed upon, and the pet trade organizations successfully avoided unfavorable outcomes through effective networking and collaboration.
